NUCLEAR NOW: Achieving our clean energy future

February 26 > 28 Westin Hotel

The global fight to tackle climate change and save the planet is at a critical juncture. That is why Canada’s nuclear industry must act now to help achieve our clean energy future. To transform electricity systems around the world, we will need every proven clean energy solution available.

This includes recognizing the indispensable role Canada’s nuclear industry will play in decarbonizing global economies through clean electrification. Join us in Ottawa in 2020 as we look at the way forward.

Program

WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 26, 2020

  • 13:00-16:00
    Public Affairs Seminar

For the nuclear industry, it isn’t enough to have a crisis communications plan. Private companies, government agencies and other organizations need to review, practice and update their plans regularly.

During the seminar, Argyle Public Relationships President Daniel Tisch will lead a crisis communications training session. After sharing key principles of crisis communications, Tisch will conduct a real-time simulation to see how different departments would work together during a nuclear incident.

The three-hour seminar will also include an update from Hill + Knowlton Vice-President Kevin Bosch about what to expect from the recently elected federal government. Find out how the nuclear sector could be affected as it works to protect refurbishments and develop small modular reactors across the country. Bosch will focus on what communications messages and tactics will have the greatest impact on the Liberal minority government’s decisions.

  • 13:00-17:00
    Small Modular Reactor (SMR) Seminar

Small modular reactors (SMRs) are a clean energy option for Canada’s smaller provinces and northern territories. Our SMR session this year will focus on using SMRs for electricity in a smaller provincial system. How would the SMR option compare with the likely alternatives? What opportunities might it bring to the regional economy?
